The Assassin's Creed saga takes place during 2012 and features Desmond Miles as the main character. Miles is the last descendant of an extensive lineage belonging to the millennial Brotherhood of the Assassins or Assassins. But despite being educated as one of the brotherhood, Miles decides to leave her in the pursuit of a quiet and normal life as manager of the bar of a bar. Nevertheless, the mega corporation Abstergo Industries, which is nothing more than the modern incarnation of the legendary Order of the Knights Templar, knows the secret of Miles and decides to kidnap it. The goal of Abstergo Industries is to force Miles to use a device called Animus, which allows him to access his ancestral memories through his DNA. With this, Abstergo seeks to unearth the location of powerful artifacts called Fruits of Eden, which would give them unlimited power with which to dominate the world and change their destiny. But at the last moment, Miles is rescued by members of the modern Incarnation of the Brotherhood of the Assassins, and taken to a safe place. Desmond agrees to collaborate with the Brotherhood by making use of his own version of the Animus, Animus 2.0, in order to locate the Fruits of Eden before Abstergo Industries.

It is important to emphasize that, as a side effect of the use of the Animus, Miles acquires abilities of the subjects whose experiences he revives, although he will also suffer from certain personality disorders and multiple and confused memories in his memory. In the first Assassin's Creed, Miles accedes to the ancestral memory of one of his most illustrious ancestors: the Assassin Master of the Third Crusade, Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad who, curiously, is initially disgraced and disowned. And it is precisely during the adventures carried out by Miles / Ezio that we come into contact with one of the great revelations of the saga Assassin's Creed: the end of the world foreseen for 2012. Precisely the year in which the prologue of the first Assassin 'S Creed, and where the other seated life of Desmond Miles also takes place. Ezio is aware of these data in several ways. On the one hand, this prophecy is mentioned by an earlier user of the Animus who is known only as Subject 16. And on the other hand, this prophecy is also related by holographic figures belonging to a species that preceded Earth on the race Human. These figures, calling themselves the First Civilization or Those Who Came Before, respond to the names of Minerva, Juno, and Jupiter, and are the creators of the Fruits of Eden.

These beings, and particularly Minerva, speak directly to Desmond through Ezio, who realizes that it is but a mere conduit for Desmond. Ezio is also aware that the answers he seeks in his time will be revealed to Desmond in 2012. However, Minerva, Juno and Jupiter reveal that their species was the original creator of the human race, and that the Fruits of Eden were Created in their great majority to control and to enslave the humans thanks to their powers of suggestion and mental control. Nevertheless the humans ended up rebelling against their creators, in a conflict provoked in its origin by the theft of one of the Fruits of Eden, the Manzada del Edén, perpetrated by two humans who answered the name of Adam and Eve and that they did not see Affected by the effects of the Fruits of Eden. But something nearly annihilated both races in one fell swoop. In fact, it was a massive solar eruption (also known as the Toba Catastrophe or Event) which decimated humans and the First Civilization, and completely destroyed their culture and infrastructure. Minerva, Juno and Jupiter reveal that they failed to predict and respond to this cataclysm, having transferred possible solutions to a central chamber located in New York from other cameras scattered throughout the planet.

After the catastrophe, the few humans and members of Those Who Arrived Before that were agreed a truce and decided to work together to try to restore order and civilization. Unfortunately the members of First Civilization were less and less. And after being aware that their extinction was approaching, they decided to mate with the humans in order for their blood to survive.

The solution did not work and the race ended up being extinguished, whereas the different geologic eras naturally erased all trace of its passage by the Earth. In this way, humans know that They were completely alone on Earth as the dominant race. Be that as it may, this measure of interspecies mating resulted in the creation of a very special blood line, which gave rise to a group of hybrid subjects who had special abilities thanks to the mixture of human blood and Those Who Came Before. Unsurprisingly, both Ezio and Altaïr are bearers of this line of blood (and Desmond also, since in his person the unification of Ezio and Altaïr is represented).
